Reflection

Over the last several years a big trend for New Years is to pick a word of the year. Maybe a word the previous year taught you, a word for looking forward into the new year, or even a word that reflects a goal you have set for yourself. The past two years my words were very similar: ‘consistency’ and ‘intentional’. These words were personalized to specific goals I’ve wanted to reach in the new year. I normally pray over the word and think about how I want to apply it to my personal goals, my family, and any business goal I may have.

LET ALL THAT I AM WAIT QUIETLY BEFORE GOD, FOR MY HOPE IS IN HIM.

-PSALMS 62:5

I love the holiday season! I am guilty of having my Christmas tree up in early November. But by the end of December I am ready to reclaim my routine, eat normal again, and re-focus my goals.

New Years for me means hit the ground running: workout, eat healthy, bible plan, family goals, financial goals, and while we’re at it… Let’s add new business goals! New Years refresh often turns in to overwhelm and burnout.

National Quitters Day

I’ve never heard so much talk about national quitters day as I have this year. I’m not sure I even knew it was a thing, but apparently there are statistics behind it. I’ve seen it shared as different dates: Jan. 7, Jan. 15, and Jan. 21. No matter which is correct I would guess the people that fall victim to national quitters day have one thing in common, BURN OUT. Just a thought or truthfully my experience. We overwhelm ourselves with goals, tasks, information, often unrealistic expectations, you name it… we are on overload coming out of an already hectic season.

Reflection

Going into this New Year I’ve chosen a different approach. I’ve chose to slow down and reflect. My word for this year is not reflection. However, I did choose it for the title because this topic has been on my heart. This year instead of overwhelm I have chosen to slow down and reflect. My word for 2026 is stewardship. I want to steward well the gifts God has blessed me with. My family, my home, my health and my business.

The truth is God doesn’t call us to live in burnout. So instead of ‘hustle’ in the New Year, I am choosing reflection for this season. Looking at where I’ve been, what I’ve grown through, and praying about what God would have me do next. This season of reflection is slow and I am not feeling pressure to take on more. Focusing on stewarding well what I’ve been blessed with has brought calm and contentment.

I challenge you to take time to slow down and reflect. I pray you can also find peace and contentment in this season.
