“Things will slow down next week”
I catch myself wondering ‘Is that a thing?’ as these words roll out again; Things will slow down next week… Do you get to adulthood and suddenly you have a new catchphrase?
What does slow even look like? I find myself craving it.
I think we’ve all lived so long in a world that encourage busyness that we’ve lost sight of living intentionally.
No more lazy Saturday mornings, slow evenings at home, or going for a walk just because. If you don’t have something on your calendar you are failing.
How did we get here?
When did rest become failure?
In a world where burnout is the new normal, I find myself lost in going through the motions of life.
I crave intentional time with my family.
I find myself more and more wanting to disconnect from all the outside noise.
I want to live on purpose.
I want to live my life on purpose. I truly believe we were never meant to live life this connected. Taking in this overload of information has made many of us cynical. Don’t misunderstand my words. To clarify, I do believe God created us to be connected. He created us to be connected in community. The Trinity is the perfect example of community. We are created for human connection and relationship. There is a big difference in personal relationships verses talking to someone behind a screen and having a constant flow of information at our finger tips. That is superficial at best and overwhelming. I fully believe this isn’t part of Gods design for us. He desires a relationship with us and I believe he designed us to be in community with one another. The kind of community with friendships you can do deep with, you can say the hard things, the relationships you have to cultivate, the ones you can do life with. Have you ever noticed that after a period of time scrolling you feel alone or even exhausted? God created us for more!
““Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matthew 11:28-29 CSB
When do we say enough is enough? When we are contantly being fed more equals success, where do we draw the line? This year for me has been a year of less. I have tried to be intentional ( failing more than I care to admit ), but I have tried to be intentional with my decisions about our time and what goes on our calendar. I do not want to look back at this time in my life and think only of overwhelm. My word for this year is stewardship and it is looking a little different in this season of life as we go into summer. We as a family have decided to be better stewards of our time and how we serve in our home. It has been so refreshing to be part of this growth together. We are taking time to be intentional with how we serve one another in our home and it has been a breath of fresh air. Our home feels lighter and these acts of service are coming easier because they are coming from a place of love instead of another thing to check off of a busy to-do list.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.”
Psalms 119:105 CSB
This has not been an over night shift and not everyone has been on bored at the same time, especially starting out, but I am finding that being intentional with my next step makes it easier to keep moving toward a slower pace that we all are enjoying in this season of life.
Maybe slowing down doesn’t mean doing less.
Maybe it means finally doing what matters most.
I’m learning that intentional living isn’t built in grand moments. It’s built in quiet ones — the Sunday reset, the evening walk, the cup of coffee, the choice to stop filling every second just because we can.
If you’re craving more peace, more rhythm, and a softer start to your week, I created a free Sunday Reset guide to help you slow down and prepare for the week with purpose instead of pressure.
You can grab it below and start creating a life that feels a little less chaotic and a lot more intentional.
